From May 12 to 14, 2026, Irina Sakhelashvili—MD, PhD, international expert in medical education, and recipient of the European Commission's "Seal of Excellence"—visited the Academy on an official visit. The Professor represents the Georgian American University and possesses extensive experience in developing and managing international educational and research projects.
Over the course of three days, an intensive, practice-oriented program was conducted for SKMA faculty, researchers, and international office staff, aimed at developing project management competencies and enhancing the university's international activity.
Within the framework of the training, the participants reviewed:
• mechanisms for establishing international consortia with foreign universities and research centers;
• searching for relevant Horizon Europe and Erasmus+ calls in alignment with SKMA’s strategic development priorities;
• developing project concepts, defining goals, KPIs, expected outcomes, and the structure of research and educational initiatives;
• specific requirements for preparing competitive grant proposals according to European Union standards.
Particular emphasis was placed on practical work: SKMA teams presented their initial project ideas, received expert feedback, and obtained recommendations for further proposal refinement.
This training was an important step in advancing SKMA’s international cooperation, strengthening the university’s research potential, and preparing for participation in the upcoming grant season of European Union programs.
