Regional scientific and practical conference “School of clinical neurology in Southern Kazakhstan” held in Shymkent

Shymkent, March 5, 2026 — South Kazakhstan medical academy became a major gathering point for leading experts in neuroscience. A large-scale regional scientific and practical conference titled “School of Clinical Neurology in Southern Kazakhstan” was held at Aidana Plaza hotel, bringing together practicing physicians, scientists, and young researchers.

The event was organized by the Department of neurology, psychiatry, rehabilitation medicine and neurosurgery of the academy with official support from the Shymkent City Health Department and the Turkestan Region Health Department.
The main objective of the “School” was to introduce modern international standards for the diagnosis and treatment of neurological diseases into routine clinical practice across the region.

The conference program covered a wide range of pressing issues in contemporary medicine:

The conference was opened by Professor Nazira Asanovna Zharkinbekova, who presented a comprehensive analysis of the current state and future prospects of neurological services in the region.

Professor Saida Zakirovna Eshimbetova (Almaty) discussed therapeutic approaches to epilepsy and epileptic psychoses.
Particular interest was generated by an online lecture delivered by Professor Nerses Bebek, Director of the Epilepsy Center at Istanbul University, focusing on modern approaches to the use of Levetiracetam.

Experts discussed advanced clinical experience in the use of Ravulizumab for severe myasthenia, as well as diagnostic approaches for Spinal Muscular Atrophy (SMA).

A significant part of the presentations was devoted to Ischemic Stroke, chronic cerebral ischemia, and innovative rehabilitation methods following vascular events.

The final session presented unique research data on molecular genetic causes of pediatric Encephalopathy and gene regulation mechanisms in Alzheimer's Disease.

The conference had strong practical value. In addition to fundamental presentations, physicians discussed clinical cases of rare pathologies such as MELAS syndrome, as well as modern neuroimaging methods for diagnosing demyelinating diseases.

“Such meetings allow us not only to exchange experience but also to build an integrated system of patient care at the intersection of neurology, psychiatry, and genetics,” participants noted during the discussion.

The event concluded with an active discussion session during which practicing physicians received answers to complex professional questions. The “School of Clinical Neurology” once again confirmed the status of South Kazakhstan medical academy as a flagship institution of medical education and science in southern Kazakhstan.
