On March 1, in celebration of Gratitude Day, the Department of Family Medicine at Оңтүстік Қазақстан медицина академиясы organized a meaningful event aimed at fostering moral and patriotic values among young people.
The initiative was led by Assistant Professor and senior therapist-cardiologist Kumisai Atashova. Together with interns from groups ІЖТДО 29-24 and ІТҚ-03-25, they honored veterans who contributed to the peace and stability of the country and participated in a commemorative meeting at the Шымкент қалалық мұражайы.
During the meeting, the Chairman of the City Veterans Council and Museum Director, Ualikhan Adayev, introduced the young doctors to the museum exhibits and shared profound historical insights. He inspired them with stories of heroism during World War II, presented photographs of intelligence officers who fought against enemy forces and helped bring Victory Day closer, and spoke about their remarkable courage and dedication. He also emphasized the importance of national unity, interethnic harmony, and loyalty to the Motherland, offering his heartfelt blessing to the younger generation. Today’s peaceful sky and stable life are the result of the immense sacrifices and heroic efforts of our respected veterans. We must honor our past and always take pride in our heroes. Our gratitude for the peace they granted us is boundless.“ A doctor’s hands must heal not only with skill but also with heart. By teaching young doctors the difficult lessons of history and the glorious path of veterans, we must nurture compassion and kindness within them. Only those who respect the past can truly understand their responsibility for the future.” At the end of the meeting, the Veterans Council provided a list of veterans who served the country, as well as elderly individuals confined to their homes and in need of medical care, including 95-year-old home-front workers. The interns visited the veterans’ homes and conducted professional medical examinations: listening to complaints, reviewing medical histories, measuring blood pressure, and checking heart sounds and pulse rates. They also reviewed current medications and offered necessary treatment adjustments and recommendations. This noble initiative not only enhanced the professional skills of young specialists but also strengthened their compassion and respect for the elderly. The gratitude expressed by the veterans made this day a true reflection of humanity and honor. The interns visited the homes of 17 veterans and conducted professional medical examinations, including:
Medical history assessment: carefully listening to complaints and reviewing medical histories.
Physical examination: measuring blood pressure and checking heart sounds and pulse rate.
Medical consultation: reviewing medications and providing guidance on proper use.
Treatment adjustment: making necessary corrections and offering medical recommendations.
This initiative not only enhanced the professional competence of young doctors but also strengthened their compassion and respect for the elderly. The heartfelt gratitude of the veterans became the most meaningful gift of this truly special day.
