Nazarbayev University's First International Conference on Planetary Health and Sustainable Healthcare

As part of the celebration of Nazarbayev University's 15th anniversary, the First International Conference of Nazarbayev University on Planetary Health and Sustainable Healthcare was held.
The event brought together international experts from the United States, Great Britain, Japan, Singapore, Pakistan, South Korea, Kyrgyzstan, Kazakhstan, researchers, and practitioners to discuss the urgent need to create climate-resilient and environmentally friendly healthcare systems.

The conference focused on innovative approaches to reducing the environmental impact of healthcare, improving energy efficiency, strengthening the adaptive capacity of healthcare systems to climate change, and promoting sustainable healthcare policies at the national and global levels.

Aizat Ashimkhanovna Seidakhmetova, Dean of the Faculty of Medicine and Head of the Department of Emergency Medicine and Nursing, spoke on the topic: "Environmental Sustainability in Healthcare: A Qualitative Study of the Perspectives of Nursing, Medical, and Public Health Students in Kazakhstan."
. The report presented the results of the CARCEIT study, which involved Nazarbayev University, the South Kazakhstan Medical Academy, and the Karaganda Medical University.
The following thematic areas were considered:
Climate-resilient health systems and environmental protection. Topics included the impact of climate change on human health, adaptation of health systems, emerging infectious diseases, climate-sensitive policies, and health equity.

Sustainable healthcare infrastructure, innovation, and technology. This included green hospitals, decarbonization, digital and remote care technologies, and sustainability metrics in healthcare.
Education, Leadership, and Governance for Planetary Health.
Topics covered planetary health education, leadership development, public-private partnerships, governance models, and community engagement.
This conference was an important step in strengthening Nazarbayev University's commitment to sustainable development and promoting planetary health.
