October 1 – International Day of Older Persons

On September 30, 2026, the Department of Foreign Languages of South Kazakhstan Medical Academy organized an event dedicated to the International Day of Older Persons, which is observed annually on October 1. Students of group MKAB-10-26 took part in the event.
The aim of the event was to foster a respectful and caring attitude towards the older generation among students, to develop a sense of gratitude for their life experience and contribution to society, and to draw young people’s attention to the importance of supporting and caring for older persons.
During the event, special attention was paid to the role of the older generation in society. Older people are the custodians of valuable life experience, wisdom, family values, and national traditions. Through their many years of dedicated work, they have made a significant contribution to the development of our country, the upbringing of younger generations, and the strengthening of social values.
Respect for elders has always held a special place in Kazakh culture. As a Kazakh proverb says, “Үлкенге — құрмет, кішіге — ізет” — “Respect the elders and show kindness to the younger.” Kind words, concern for the well-being of older people, and a willingness to provide assistance when needed are important expressions of humanity, compassion, and continuity between generations.
Such events contribute to the development of students’ moral values, social responsibility, compassion, and respect for the older generation. These qualities are particularly important for future healthcare professionals, as care, attention, empathy, and a sensitive attitude towards people are essential components of their professional practice.
The International Day of Older Persons is not only a commemorative date but also another opportunity to express our gratitude to the older generation for their hard work, wisdom, and invaluable life experience. Caring for and respecting older people are important indicators of the moral values and culture of society.
