As part of the educational work plan, the Department of Pharmacology, Pharmacotherapy, and Clinical Pharmacology of the South Kazakhstan Medical Academy organized an educational event titled “Medicine is Not Candy” at Asar School, an elementary education institution. The mentoring groups of the Departments of Pharmacology, Pharmacotherapy, and Clinical Pharmacology actively participated, including: FСR 01-25 (2nd year), FCK A 01-25 (2nd year), FCR 02-24 (3rd year), FCK B 01-25 (2nd year), FCK 01-24 (3rd year).
The main goal was to teach young pupils that taking medicine without a doctor’s or parent’s permission is dangerous, and to promote a culture of medicine safety among children.
According to the World Health Organization (WHO), more than 500,000 children every year accidentally consume medicines mistaking them for food or sweets. Studies show that about 90% of children over the age of six begin taking medicines without parental supervision, which poses a serious risk to their health.
During the event, the pupils attended an informative presentation, and the most active participants received small gifts. In appreciation, Ms. Shakhnoza Umarovna Seitkulova, Principal of Asar School, expressed her gratitude to the university’s rector and the department staff, presenting them with a letter of appreciation.
