A lecture on the topic of ‘Suicide Prevention’ was held

On September 18, 2026, the Department of Family Medicine organized an informative and educational lecture on the topic of “Suicide Prevention” under the motto “Awaken Your Mind!”. The lecture was conducted for students of grades 8–9 at the Kemenger Shäkirt General Education School by physician interns of the ITQ 08-26 group under the supervision of Dinara Sabyrzhanovna Narzullayeva, Assistant of the Department.
The main objectives of the event were to strengthen adolescents’ psychological well-being, explain the value of life, emphasize the importance of seeking help in difficult situations, and prevent suicidal behavior.
Today, various factors such as psychological distress, bullying, family difficulties, and the influence of social media can contribute to emotional instability among adolescents. Therefore, it is important to provide students with timely information, create an environment of trust, and offer appropriate support.
During the lecture, the physician interns defined the concept of suicide and comprehensively explained ways to prevent it. It was explained that suicide is a deliberate act aimed at ending one’s own life, and particular emphasis was placed on the fact that suicidal behavior can be prevented.
The following suicide prevention measures were presented during the lecture:
• promoting a culture of open communication;
• encouraging students not to be ashamed to ask for help when facing difficulties and to inform trusted adults (teachers, parents, or a psychologist);
• maintaining regular contact with the school psychologist;
• providing information about helplines;
• conducting exercises aimed at increasing self-respect and self-esteem.
As part of the event, the “Circle of Joy” activity was organized to create a trusting and psychologically safe environment for the students. The participants formed a circle and shared warm wishes and motivational words with one another. The students freely expressed their thoughts and offered words of hope, confidence, and support to each other. The activity helped create an atmosphere of trust and demonstrated the participants’ active engagement and openness. The “Circle of Joy” contributed to stabilizing the students’ emotional state, developing positive thinking skills, and understanding the importance of supporting one another in difficult situations.
An art-therapy activity called the “Tree of Life” was also used. On a pre-prepared poster depicting a tree, the students wrote down their wishes, dreams, and life goals for the future. The purpose of the exercise was to foster a positive attitude toward life, help students identify their personal values, and strengthen their sense of confidence in the future. The wishes written on each leaf of the tree symbolized the students’ inner hopes and aspirations for life. During the activity, participants shared their dreams, showed respect for one another’s goals, and provided mutual support.
The lecture was meaningful and beneficial for the students. The adolescents were informed about the value of life, the importance of psychological well-being, and the need to overcome difficulties together. They were also provided with information about helplines and the working hours of the school psychologist.
The school administration expressed its sincere gratitude to the physician interns and plans to continue preventive activities in this area. In addition, efforts will be undertaken to organize students’ leisure time more effectively and to develop sports and creative extracurricular clubs.
