On October 8, 2026, an event on the topic “Academic Integrity League” was held among the students of the MҚАБ-06-26 and СҚАБ-03-26 groups, organized by the Department of English of the South Kazakhstan Medical Academy. Senior lecturer Angela Baimakhanovna Bespamyatnykh was appointed responsible for the Academic Integrity League.
The main purpose of the event was to promote the activities of the Academic Integrity League, which unites higher and postgraduate education institutions of the Republic of Kazakhstan. The League was established on August 28, 2018. Its main goal is to improve the quality of education by developing and promoting the principles of academic integrity in higher education institutions.
Academic integrity means honest, fair, and responsible behavior by a student during the learning process. In other words, students should complete their assignments independently, avoid cheating during examinations, not commit plagiarism, not present someone else’s work as their own, and correctly indicate the sources of the information they use. This responsibility does not belong only to students. Teachers are also responsible for fair assessment, respecting students’ work, and developing a culture of academic integrity. It is also important to explain the rules of academic integrity to students, develop a culture of fairness and responsibility during the educational process, and prevent academic violations during examinations, such as plagiarism, cheating, and dishonesty.
Academic integrity is especially important in the medical field. In the future, a doctor will use the knowledge gained during education while working with patients. Therefore, it is very important for a student not only to receive a high grade in an examination but also to genuinely acquire knowledge. A grade obtained through cheating cannot demonstrate the real knowledge of a future specialist.
In short, the Academic Integrity League is an organization aimed at ensuring honest learning, fair assessment, preventing plagiarism, and improving the quality of education in higher education institutions in Kazakhstan. Its work is focused not only on helping students obtain a diploma, but also on developing genuine knowledge and professional competence.
