All-russian organic chemistry olympiad With international participation

The All-Russian Olympiad in Organic Chemistry with international participation is a traditional image event for the A.P. Nelyubin Institute of Pharmacy at Sechenov University. This year, the competition was held for the eleventh time and brought together over 100 Russian and international students. Participants included students in the fields of Pharmacy, Biotechnology, Medical Biochemistry, Dentistry, Pediatrics, and General Medicine. International students from Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Turkmenistan, Gabon, Zimbabwe, Iran, and Lebanon actively participated in the 2026 competition. Fourth-year students from the Faculty of Pharmacy at SKMA once again participated in the student Olympiad under the guidance of teachers of the Department of Pharmaceutical and Toxicological Chemistry.

Lyudmila Korol, Head of the Educational Department at the A.P. Nelyubin Institute of Pharmacy, launched the competition program: "They say the pinnacle of pharmacy is technology, but it all begins... with the molecule. Regardless of how the active molecule of a drug is created-chemically or computer-aided-the effectiveness, stability, and safety of the drug are the responsibility of the chemist".

This year, students from Lomonosov Moscow State University, St. Petersburg Chemical-Pharmaceutical University, and Sechenov University demonstrated the highest level of preparation. Our student Nurzhanbek Yerkebulan was among the winners, while his classmates Zhakhongir Vakhapov and Bibizhamal Akberdiyeva were also among the prize winners.

According to student feedback, the Olympiad impressed with its creative, innovative approach to the competition stages. In addition to problems requiring not only knowledge of organic chemistry but also logical thinking and problem-solving, participants were also asked questions that required a good understanding of the history of chemistry and its cutting-edge achievements. They noted that the questions required integrated knowledge of the relevant disciplines of pharmaceutical chemistry, toxicological chemistry, pharmacology, pharmacognosy, and pharmaceutical technology.
We congratulate our winners, runners-up, and their supervisors on their successful participation in such a prestigious international Olympiad. We wish them continued academic success in the era of advanced information technology and artificial intelligence!
