An Educational Visit by Medical Interns to the OLIMP Laboratory

The professional development of a future doctor is not limited to textbooks and classroom learning. Genuine clinical thinking and the ability to make an accurate diagnosis begin with a thorough understanding of laboratory testing methods.
With this purpose in mind, medical interns from group 09-26 ITQ visited the modern OLIMP Medical Laboratory. The visit was organized by the Department of Family Medicine of South Kazakhstan Medical Academy under the guidance of the group supervisor, Atashova Kumisai Kuldirakovna, an experienced physician of the highest qualification category. During the visit, the interns had the opportunity to observe every stage of various laboratory tests.
To gain a comprehensive understanding of a disease and make an accurate diagnosis, a doctor must know how each laboratory test is performed and how different cells appear under a microscope.
Following the laboratory visit, we connected our practical experience with the discipline we are currently studying and attended an informative specialized lecture on the interpretation of laboratory test results in patients with respiratory diseases.
During the lecture, we discussed in detail:
• which types of tests provide the most valuable information for different diseases;
• the importance of blood and sputum tests in the differential diagnosis of pulmonary diseases;
• the cost and accessibility of laboratory tests, as well as the comprehensive interpretation of their clinical results.
The students not only observed modern analyzers in operation but also applied their theoretical knowledge to real-life pulmonology cases.
We are confident that such practical sessions, conducted with the support of the department and under the mentorship of Kumisai Kuldirakovna, broaden the professional outlook of future specialists and further strengthen their sense of responsibility for patient care.
