10 September , 2026, Atherosclerosis Prevention Week was held among patients at City Polyclinic No. 5. The event was an important preventive initiative involving interns of South Kazakhstan Medical Academy, faculty members, and polyclinic patients.
The event was organized jointly by Doctor of Medical Sciences, Professor and physician of the highest category - Gulzhan Nurbekovna Dosybaeva, Department of General Practice-2, together with Quralai Myrzabekovna Qutibayeva, deputy head for expertise of the quality of medical services provided.
Why is this important?
For patients, it was an opportunity to receive useful information about cardiovascular health, learn about the main risk factors for atherosclerosis, and receive recommendations on healthy nutrition and a healthy lifestyle.
For us, the interns, it was valuable experience in communicating with patients, conducting preventive work, and developing health education skills.
During the week, patients had their blood pressure measured and completed questionnaires. The main risk factors for atherosclerosis and the principles of a healthy, balanced diet were explained. Particular attention was paid to limiting fatty and fried foods, trans fats, and excessive salt intake. The importance of physical activity, the harmful effect of smoking on blood vessels, and the need for regular monitoring of blood pressure, cholesterol, and blood glucose levels were also discussed.
