“Expert of the Kazakh Language” Olympiad – A Bright Reflection of Love for the Language

On June 10, 2025, the Department of Kazakh, Russian, and Latin Languages at South Kazakhstan Medical Academy organized the “Expert of the Kazakh Language” Olympiad among international students to promote interest in the Kazakh language.
The main goal of the event was to enhance the motivation of international students to learn Kazakh and to promote the culture and traditions of the Kazakh people. At the opening ceremony, Vice-Rector for Educational Work and Social Affairs, Yerbol Kaltursynuly, emphasized the importance of language learning and wished the participants success.
Six teams took part in the Olympiad, showcasing their knowledge and talents through five competitive rounds. In the first round, students introduced themselves in Kazakh. In the second, they demonstrated their language proficiency through Q&A. Participants also exhibited their creativity by performing Kazakh songs, dances, and expressive reading.
The jury included: Deputy Director of the Shymkent City Center for Language Teaching Methodology, Gulanar Anarbekkyzy Kaldybaeva; Candidate of Philological Sciences and Associate Professor Zh.D. Temirbekova; and Academy’s Youth Affairs Specialist Zhanna Kambarova.
The enthusiasm and effort of the participants were highly praised. The “Zhuldyz Zharygy” team took 1st place, “Kazyna Tili” won 2nd place, and the “Koshbasshy” and “Däriger” teams shared 3rd place.
At the end of the Olympiad, all participants received gift books containing poems and prose by the great Kazakh poet Abai Kunanbayuly. This event served not only as an academic competition but also as an inspiring evening that nurtured a love for the Kazakh language and culture among international students.
