“Freedom of Religion in Kazakhstan: Rights and Responsibilities”

A senior lecturer of the Department of “History of Kazakhstan and Social and Public Disciplines,” A.A. Myrzaziya, held a round table discussion entitled “Freedom of Religion in Kazakhstan: Rights and Responsibilities” with second-year students of the “Medicine” educational program. The event was aimed at explaining citizens’ right to freedom of religion, as well as discussing measures to ensure national security, including the prevention of terrorism, racial and religious extremism.
The purpose of the event was to familiarize students with the constitutional foundations of freedom of conscience and religion in the Republic of Kazakhstan, increase their legal awareness regarding citizens’ rights and responsibilities, and promote the values of religious tolerance and interfaith harmony in society. In addition, special attention was given to preventing terrorism, religious extremism, and radical ideologies among young people, explaining the importance of state policy in maintaining national security, developing students’ critical thinking skills, and providing spiritual and moral education.
During the round table discussion, participants widely discussed issues related to freedom of conscience and religion as stipulated in the Constitution of the Republic of Kazakhstan. Particular emphasis was placed on the importance of interfaith harmony and social stability in the country. Students were provided with comprehensive information about the negative impact of destructive religious movements on society, as well as the dangers posed by religious extremism and terrorism.
Senior lecturer A.A. Myrzaziya noted that preventing the spread of radical ideologies among young people is one of the most pressing issues today. In this regard, information was presented on the work being carried out by the state, the legislative framework, and awareness-raising activities in this area. The students actively participated in the discussion, shared their opinions, and exchanged views on the topic.
At the conclusion of the event, the students emphasized that improving religious literacy, developing the ability to critically evaluate information, and maintaining peace and stability in society are important responsibilities of every citizen. The round table discussion contributed to the development of students’ legal culture, enhancement of their civic responsibility, and promotion of spiritual values.
