Acting Associate Professor of the Department of History of Kazakhstan and Socio-Public Disciplines M. U. Turadilov held a conversation with members of the Zan circle aimed at clarifying the right of citizens to freedom of religion, ensuring national security, including stopping the spread of terrorism, racial and religious extremism.
Purpose: to increase the legal literacy of students about the rights of citizens to freedom of religion guaranteed by the Constitution of the Republic of Kazakhstan, to explain ways to preserve national security, as well as to strengthen the responsibility of young people in the prevention of terrorism, racial and religious extremism and the formation of religious tolerance. In accordance with the Constitution of the Republic of Kazakhstan, every citizen has the right to freedom of conscience, including freedom of religion. The realization of this right is an integral part of the values of a democratic society. However, in recent years, the activity of various radical and extremist organizations abusing the religious factor has been growing at the global and regional levels. In this regard, one of the important tasks is to carry out information and explanatory work among young people, increase religious literacy, ensure national security and social stability. During the meeting, the students provided explanations on the legislative foundations of religious freedom of citizens, its boundaries and legal guarantees. In addition, they discussed the threats of religious extremism and terrorism to society, ways of their spread, and preventive measures. The students, in turn, asked questions and shared their opinions on this issue. The idea of the dangers of destructive religious ideas spread through the Internet and social networks, and the need to form information immunity against them, was particularly touched upon. As a result of the discussion, it became clear that the issues of religious freedom and national security are closely interrelated. It is concluded that every citizen should be able to exercise their rights, as well as be aware of their responsibility to society. The importance of improving religious literacy and information culture of young people to counter radical and extremist ideologies was emphasized. The students expressed their willingness to strengthen social harmony in their environment based on tolerance and mutual respect. The meeting was intense, the students took an active part and openly expressed their views. The event achieved its goal and provided the participants with useful information.
