At the Centre for Practical Skills of South Kazakhstan Medical Academy, sixth-year international medical interns enrolled in the 6B10112 General Medical Practice educational programme at the General Practice-2 Department successfully defended their projects.
The projects were completed as part of project-based learning within the “Paediatric Diseases at the Primary Health Care Level” module and focused on current issues in child health.
The following projects were presented:
🔹 IZhTDA-31-26 — “Adolescents’ Internet Use and Their Need for Support,” addressing the broader topic of internet addiction among children and adolescents;
🔹 IZhTDA-32-26 — “Assessment of the Dietary Habits of Preschool Children”;
🔹 IZhTDA-33-26 — “Factors Contributing to the Development of Obesity in Children.”
The projects were supervised by Department Assistants A. K. Zhiyen and N. N. Mustafayeva. The defence panel included representatives of the department’s academic staff: R. A. Smetova, a lecturer responsible for academic affairs, and Assistants B. N. Baimuratova and B. M. Abdiyeva.
The project work involved investigating risk factors, conducting surveys, analysing the collected data, and developing electronic preventive educational materials using artificial intelligence.
As part of the project on adolescents’ internet use, the interns created educational comics accessible via QR codes, interactive questions, and visually engaging informational posters.
Project-based learning enables future physicians to connect theoretical knowledge with the practical demands of primary health care, gain experience in research and teamwork, substantiate their findings, and develop clear, accessible recommendations for children and parents.
The selected topics highlight a key aspect of general medical practice: preventing health problems and fostering healthy habits from an early age.
