Organization and Implementation of the Academic Mobility Program at the Department of Pediatrics-1

From October 5 to 14, 2026, the Department of Pediatrics-1 at the South Kazakhstan Medical Academy organized educational sessions in the discipline of “Pediatric Surgery” for 10 students from group ВМ-МҚА-14-23 of Khoja Akhmet Yassawi International Kazakh-Turkish University as part of the academic mobility program. The initiative aimed to strengthen academic cooperation between higher education institutions, improve the quality of education, and develop the professional competencies of future healthcare professionals.
The primary objective of the academic mobility program was to deepen students’ theoretical knowledge in pediatric surgery, enhance their clinical reasoning skills, promote the understanding of diagnostic and treatment principles for surgical diseases, and develop their practical skills.
The educational process was conducted in accordance with the approved curriculum of the discipline. Students were introduced to the specific features of the department’s educational process, the principles of academic integrity, and the requirements for knowledge assessment.
During practical sessions, particular attention was paid to the etiology, pathogenesis, clinical manifestations, diagnosis, differential diagnosis, and treatment strategies for surgical diseases in children.
To enhance students’ clinical reasoning skills, various teaching methods were employed, including clinical case discussions involving patients with relevant conditions, case-based learning, problem-solving through clinical scenarios, oral questioning, testing, and interactive teaching methods.
The implementation of the academic mobility program facilitated the exchange of educational experiences between the two higher education institutions, strengthened academic partnerships, and broadened students’ professional perspectives.
In the future, it is recommended to continue cooperation with partner universities within the framework of the academic mobility program, organize joint educational and scientific activities, and expand opportunities for students to exchange professional knowledge and experience.
