
On January 29, 2026, second-year students of the “Medicine” educational program at JSC “SKMA” successfully defended their research projects in the discipline “Biostatistics.” The event was held within the framework of implementing project-based learning and promoting students’ research activities.
The discipline is delivered in a modular format at the Department of Medical Biophysics and Information Technologies. Students from groups BM–MQA–03 and BM–MQA–04 took part in the project defense.
The projects addressed pressing issues of modern society, including attitudes toward vaccination, the impact of fast food consumption on quality of life, the prevalence of diabetes mellitus and its risk factors, as well as the influence of lifestyle and digital factors on young people’s vision.

During the project work, students developed questionnaires, collected and statistically analyzed data, prepared presentations, and publicly presented their research findings. In addition, they received advice from library and information center staff on working with electronic library databases, and thanks to a master class from the Department of Digital Education Support and Pedagogical Competencies, they learned how to work with the Trello digital service. took part in a seminar organized by the Project Management and Commercialization Office on the topic “Project Presentation: From Structure to Visualization (Slides, Graphs, Infographics).”
The projects were highly evaluated by faculty members for their relevance, quality of execution, and level of teamwork.
The project defense contributed to the development of students’ practical skills in applying biostatistics and conducting research, making a significant contribution to their future professional and scientific development.
