Responsibility, Objectivity, and Objective Assessment: Department of Phthisiopulmonology and Radiology Conducts Academic Integrity Seminar for Residents

On October 13, 2026, the Department of Phthisiopulmonology and Radiology of the South Kazakhstan Medical Academy (SKMA) organized a seminar entitled “Awareness-Raising Activities on Anti-Corruption Conduct in Situations Related to Assessment, Examinations, Educational Grants, Dormitory Accommodation, and Admission to Educational Institutions.”
The seminar was conducted by Saltanat Zhambulovna Usivaliyeva, a faculty member of the department, for residents of groups РРДҚ-01-26, РРДҚ-02-26, РРДҚ-03-26, РРДҚ-04-26, РРДҚ-05-26, and РРДҚ-06-26, as well as members of the department's teaching staff.
Academic integrity means that students act honestly, fairly, and responsibly throughout the educational process. This means that students must complete their assignments independently, refrain from cheating during examinations, avoid plagiarism, never present another person's work as their own, and properly acknowledge the sources of information they use.
However, academic integrity applies not only to students. Teachers are also responsible for conducting fair assessments, objectively evaluating students' work and academic achievements, and fostering a culture of academic integrity.
The seminar also focused on explaining the principles of academic integrity to students, promoting a culture of fairness and responsibility in the educational process, and preventing academic misconduct, including plagiarism, cheating, and deception, particularly during examination periods.
Academic integrity is especially important in medical education. Future doctors will apply the knowledge acquired during their studies in their professional practice when providing medical care to patients. Therefore, what matters most is not obtaining high examination grades by any means, but genuinely acquiring knowledge and developing professional competencies. A grade obtained through cheating cannot reflect the actual level of knowledge and competence of a future medical professional.
In summary, the Academic Integrity League is an organization in Kazakhstan that aims to promote honest learning, fair assessment, the prevention of plagiarism, and the improvement of educational quality in higher education institutions.
Its activities are focused not merely on helping students obtain diplomas, but, more importantly, on ensuring that they acquire genuine knowledge, practical skills, and professional competencies necessary for their future careers.
