Internship
Internship — an internship is a form of training of medical personnel in clinical specialties and is a mandatory stage for admission to clinical practice for persons who have completed training under basic medical education programs (bachelor’s degree).
Upon completion of the internship, the graduate is awarded the qualification of a physician in accordance with the chosen specialty, which allows them to begin independent medical practice.
The internship at the South Kazakhstan Medical Academy is aimed at training competitive, clinically competent specialists capable of working effectively in the healthcare system and meeting modern requirements of medical practice.
The history of the internship at the South Kazakhstan Medical Academy reflects the stages of formation and improvement of the system of postgraduate medical education:
October 6, 2008 — by Order of the Rector of the South Kazakhstan State Medical Academy No. 73-p, the Department of Internship and Graduate Employment was established as an independent structural unit.
August 28, 2013 — based on the decision of the Academic Council (Minutes No. 1), the department was dissolved.
August 29, 2014 — by decision of the Academic Council (Minutes No. 1), the Department of Internship and Graduate Employment was reopened as part of the Scientific and Educational Center for Continuing Professional Education.
August 28, 2019 — by decision of the Academic Council (Minutes No. 1), the unit was renamed the Dean’s Office of Internship and Graduate Employment.
September 30, 2025 — by Order of the Rector of the South Kazakhstan Medical Academy No. 154-ө, the unit was reorganized through division, resulting in the establishment of independent structures:

The main purpose of the Dean’s Office of Internship is to ensure effective organization, coordination, and control of the educational process in the internship, as well as to improve the quality of practical training of future physicians.

Enhancement of the professional level and readiness of medical interns for independent medical practice
Implementation of educational programs for training medical interns in specific medical specialties
Planning, organization, and coordination of the internship educational process
Introduction of modern forms, methods, and technologies of education
Monitoring and control of the educational process implemented by профильные (specialized) departments
Analysis of the quality of intern training based on interim and final assessment results
Intensification of the educational process using interactive methods and innovative educational technologies
Conducting surveys of medical interns on satisfaction with the quality of the educational process and analysis of the obtained data
Conducting surveys of faculty members to assess the level of graduate training
Development and updating of regulations on the Dean’s Office of Internship
Admission, transfer, and reinstatement of medical interns in accordance with current regulatory legal acts
Formation and maintenance of a database on the quantitative and qualitative composition of interns
Organization and conduct of final certification of interns and analysis of its results
Establishment and development of direct cooperation with healthcare institutions
Preparation of materials for rewarding employees of the unit
Preparation of vacation schedules for dean’s office staff and accounting for business trips
Review of applications, inquiries, and complaints submitted to the dean’s office
Development of proposals to improve the activities of the dean’s office
Familiarization of employees with regulatory, directive, and administrative documents
