Department of Chemical Disciplines, Biology and Biochemistry

The Department of "Chemical Disciplines, Biology and Biochemistry" was reorganized by the decision of the Scientific Council of JSC SKMA (Protocol No. 1 dated 08/28/2024) due to the merger of the departments of "Chemical Disciplines" and "Biology and Biochemistry". Kanat Narbekovich Daurenbekov, Ph.D., Associate Professor, was appointed as the Head of the Department.
The Department of Chemical Disciplines was first established in 1979, when a branch of the Almaty State Medical Institute (ASMI branch) was opened. The director of the ASMI branch, Candidate of Pharmaceutical Sciences, Associate Professor Tegisbaev E.T. was appointed as the first Head of the Inorganic Chemistry Department.

In 1985, the Candidate of Chemical Sciences, Associate Professor Yermekbayeva A.B. was elected as the Department Head of Inorganic and Physicocolloidal Chemistry by competition results. In 1988, the Candidate of Chemical Sciences, Associate Professor Shvets I. S. was elected as the new Head of this Department. The staff of the Department contributed to the organization of pharmaceutical and medical faculties. The Head of the Department of Organic and Biological Chemistry was elected Doctor of Chemical Sciences, Professor Patsaev A.K. The department consisted of: Candidate of Chemical Sciences, Associate Professor Ilyasova M.I., Candidate of Technical Sciences, Associate Professor Pusurmanova G.Zh., Candidate of Biological Sciences, Associate Professor Akhanov A.U., Zhaishibekov B.S. and Suleimenova R.N., Associate Professor K.K. In 1994, the courses of inorganic, physico-colloidal, analytical and organic chemistry were combined into one Department of Chemistry. Candidate of Chemical Sciences, Associate Professor A.K. Patsaev was elected as the Head of the Department of Chemistry by competition results.

From 2007 to 2009, the joint Department of "Medical Biology, Pharmacognosy and Chemistry" was headed by the Doctor of Chemical Sciences, Professor A.K.Patsaev. In 2009, the departments of Chemistry and Pharmacognosy were merged into a separate department, the head of the department was the Doctor of Chemical Sciences, Professor A.K. Patsaev.
In 2013, at the Department of Pharmacognosy and Chemistry, by the decision of the Academic Council of the Academy, the laboratory "Scientific Research of Medicinal Plants" was opened. The main task of the research laboratory of medicinal plants was to study medicinal plants growing in the Turkestan region and develop medicinal substances based on it. In 2018, due to the reorganization of the Department of Chemistry and Pharmacognosy, the scientific Laboratory for Scientific Research of Medicinal Plants was assigned to the Department of Pharmacognosy.
The Department of Chemical Disciplines was reorganized on April 14 in 2018. According to the competition, Ph.D., Associate Professor Daurenbekov K.N. was elected as the head of the department. Research work at the department was carried out in two directions. 1) "Search and implementation of active teaching methods in teaching chemical disciplines" 2) "The study of medicinal plants used in folk medicine, growing in the flora of the Turkestan region." During the period from 2019 to 2024 academic year, more than 70 scientific articles, abstracts, and reports were published at the Department of Chemical Disciplines in these two research areas.
The Department of Biology and Biochemistry was established in August 1979 after the opening of a branch of the Almaty State Medical Institute in Shymkent with a single faculty of Pharmacy and was named the Department of Botany with the basics of General Biology. The department consisted of : Professor Kuandykov E.U., Ph.D., Associate professors S.A. Abilaev and A.U. Akhanov, Maisarov D.A., Kulbaeva B.Zh., M.N.S. Esirkepov M.M., senior teachers: Zholdasov K.T. and Dyusenbayeva F.B., teachers Dmitrieva R.A., Alipbaeva G.S., Konysova H.S., Zhazykbaeva G.T., Daripbek A.Zh. et.al., and senior laboratory assistant L.S. Tasova.

In 1992, after the transformation of the ASMI branch into the Shymkent Pharmaceutical Institute, the Faculty of General Medicine was opened. The Department of Botany with the basics of General Biology was transformed into the Department of Medical Biology and Genetics.
Over the years, the heads of the department were: Candidate of Biological Sciences, Associate Professor Abilaev S.A. (1979-1986, 2002-2007 yy.), Ph.D., Associate Professor Maisarov D.A. (1986-1992, 1997-2002 yy.), Doctor of Medical Sciences, Corresponding member of Academy of Medical Sciences of the Republic of Kazakhstan, Professor Kuandykov E.U. (1992-1997 yy.), the Department of Biochemistry was established on 15.09.1994 as the part of the Shymkent State Medical Institute.
The duties of the first Head of the Department were performed by Candidate of Chemical Sciences, senior lecturer, Ph.D., P.S. Zhaishibekov. From 1997 to 2002 years, Professor A. N. Yuldashev was the Head of the Department of Biochemistry. There were 3 Professors working at the Department of Biochemistry: Sharipov K.O., Yuldashev A.U. Kenzhebekov.P. In 2009, the courses of Medical Biology, Biochemistry and Microbiology were merged into the Department of Biochemistry, Biology and Microbiology. The Heads of the Department were in different years, Doctor of Biological Sciences, Professor Sharipov K.O., Candidate of Medical Sciences Esirkepov M.M., Candidate of Biological Sciences Burabaev A.A.
Department of Biology and Biochemistry was transformed from 04/18/2018 to 07/08/2020. The Head of the Department was Ph.D. Tashmukhambetov B.G. The Head of the Department of Biology and Biochemistry from 09/01/2020, before merging with the Department of Chemical Disciplines, was Ph.D., Professor Yessirkepov M. M.

The Head of the Department was, Kanat Narbekovich Daurenbekov, a Candidate of Chemical Sciences, Acting Professor, with 35 years of scientific and pedagogical experience. From August 1990 to September 1993, he worked as a junior researcher at the A. Bekturov Institute of Chemical Sciences at the Academy of Sciences of the Kazakh SSR. From 1993 to 1999, form 1999-2007 he worked as a research intern, a junior researcher at the Central Research Laboratory at the Moscow Institute of Physics and Technology. He was a teacher, senior lecturer, Associate Professor at the Department of Chemistry in 2004 by 2007. He combined the positions of Deputy Dean of the Faculty of Medicine at SKGMA.
From 2007 to 2009, he worked as Vice–rector for Academic Affairs at the International University of Humanities and Technology, 2009-2014 – Vice-rector for Academic Affairs and Rector at the Regional Socio-Innovative University. Since 2014, he has worked at the Department of "Chemical Disciplines" as an Acting Professor, and in 2018, on a competitive basis, he was elected to the position of Head of the Department of "Chemical Disciplines" and from 2018 to 2021, he served as Dean of the Faculty of Pharmacy at SKGMA. Currently, in addition to leading the department, he performs the function of a risk analyst for the Academy. He is the author of 6 textbooks, 1 monograph, 12 textbooks, 6 standard programs and more than 100 scientific articles, including 1 article in an international scientific publication included in the Scopus database. For significant achievements in the field of personnel training and youth education, he was awarded the badges of the name "S.Altynsarina" (2010, Ministry of Education and Science of the Republic of Kazakhstan) and "Densaulyk Aktau uzdigi" (2019, Ministry of Health of the Republic of Kazakhstan), as well as honorary diplomas of the Academy.

Kenzhebekov Pernebek Kenzhebekovich – Candidate of Chemical Sciences, Professor of the Department of Chemical Disciplines, Biology and Biochemistry. Teaching experience of more than 55 years. He gives lectures and conducts practical classes for students of the Faculty of Medicine and Pharmacy in Kazakh and Russian in the Biochemistry discipline. Work programs, teaching aids, workshops and visual materials on biochemistry sections have been prepared for students, such as: "Biochemistry of proteins", "Enzymes", "Biochemistry of carbohydrates", "Biomembranes", etc. He is the author of 42 scientific and methodological articles and 1 textbook. He was awarded the badge "Densaulyk Aktau uzdigi”.

Nurmashev Bekaidar Kaldybaevich – professor, Candidate of Medical Sciences (PhD).
He is the President of the Association “Pharmaceutical Cluster of Southern Kazakhstan.” From 2003 to 2009, he worked as Deputy Dean of the Faculty of General Medicine. Currently, in addition to his teaching activities, he holds the position of Vice-Rector for Clinical Affairs at the Academy. He has completed advanced training courses in management and research methodology, including in the field of healthcare, through various seminars and master classes. He has made a significant contribution to strengthening democratic and legal principles, as well as to the establishment of electoral culture and civil society in the country. His scientific and pedagogical experience totals 30 years.
He holds two patents for inventions and is the author of more than sixty scientific publications, including over 10 articles published in international peer-reviewed journals indexed in databases such as Scopus, Thomson Reuters, and others. In 2013, he was awarded the badge “Excellent Healthcare Worker” by the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Kazakhstan. In August 2014, he was awarded the academic title of Associate Professor, and subsequently the academic title of Professor in Medicine in 2021. In 2016, he was honored by the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Kazakhstan with the badge “For Contribution to the Development of Healthcare.” In 2017, for special personal merits in the development of the economy and private entrepreneurship, he was awarded the III-degree medal “For Loyalty to the Cause” by the National Chamber of Entrepreneurs of the Republic of Kazakhstan “Atameken.” In 2018, he was recognized by the international ranking database Scopus as one of the most published and most cited authors from Kazakhstan in the global medical scientific community. In the same year, he was awarded the state award “Eren Enbegi Ushin” (“For Distinguished Labor”) for achievements in the field of science.

Akhmetova Alma Abdukarimovna - Candidate of Chemical Sciences, Associate Professor with the pedagogical experience - 40 years. Conducts practical trainings, reads lectures for educational programs "Medicine" and "Pharmacy". Conducts courses on disciplines "Organic Chemistry", "Chemistry" in Kazakh and Russian languages. In different years, she took part in higher education work to introduce standards of foreign and domestic standards of quality of Education. She is the Academic Coordinator of the Erasmus + program in SKMA form 2014. She was awarded with Honorary Diploma of the Ministry of health of the Republic of Kazakhstan in 1999, Honorary badge "Excellence in health care" in 2004, Anniversary Medal for the 80th anniversary of the South Kazakhstan region in 2012, Honorary badge "For contribution to health care" in 2015.
Temirbekov Anvar Nizamidinovich, Ph.D., Associate Professor, Acting Professor of the Department of Chemical Disciplines, Biology and Biochemistry. Scientific and pedagogical experience - 49 years. He lectures and conducts practical classes for students in the educational programs "Medicine", "Pediatrics" and "Dentistry" in Russian and Kazakh languages in the disciplines: "Molecular Biology", "Medical Genetics", "Human Embryology" and "Biochemistry". He is a compiler of work programs, teaching aids, workshops and visual materials on the subjects taught. He is the author of 1 monograph, more than 120 scientific articles published in the Republic of Kazakhstan, near and far abroad, 5 textbooks, 4 teaching guidelines, 2 pre-patents, 5 acts of implementation in the educational process, and has prepared 3 undergraduates. Kan Aurora Mikhailovna, Candidate of Medical Sciences, Acting Professor. Teaching experience of 45 years. she gives lectures and conducts practical classes for students of the educational program "Medicine" in Russian. She is the developer of educational and methodical complexes for the biochemistry course. Author of 35 scientific and methodological articles.

Kulbaeva Botagoz Zhakipbekovna - Candidate of Biological Sciences, Acting Professor. Teaching experience of 46 years. She gives lectures and conducts practical classes for students in the educational programs "Medicine", "Dentistry", "Pediatrics" and "Pharmacy" in Russian. She is a developer of educational and methodological complexes for the course of molecular biology and medical genetics. She is the author of 16 scientific and methodological articles and 6 textbooks.

Alikhanova Khaliya Bakadirovna - Candidate of Chemical Sciences, Acting Professor. Teaching experience of 23 years. Conducts practical classes and lectures for students on the educational programs "Medicine", "Pharmacy", "Pharmaceutical production technology" in Kazakh and Russian languages. She is the developer of educational and methodical complexes for the course of organic chemistry. She is the author of more than 118 scientific and methodological articles, 5 standard programs, 2 textbooks and teaching aids. Turebekova Gulzakhira Andasovna – Candidate of Pedagogical Sciences, Acting Associate Professor. Teaching experience of 25 years. Conducts lectures and practical classes for students of the Faculty of Medicine, Dentistry, Pediatrics and Pharmacy in Kazakh and Russian, and develops educational and methodological complexes for the courses "Inorganic Chemistry" and "Physical Colloidal Chemistry". She is the author of textbooks "Physicocolloidal chemistry", "Tabigi kosylystardyn khimiyasy", "Chemistry of natural compounds". She has more than 120 scientific and methodological articles. Dildabekova Lazzat Anarkulovna - Candidate of Pedagogical Sciences, Acting Associate Professor. Teaching experience of 25 years. Bekarysova Dana Sapargalikyzy – MD, Ph.D., Head of the Department of Coordination and Development of Scientific Journals, Editor-in-chief of the Central Asian Journal of Medical Hypotheses and Ethics. Teaching experience - 4 years. Conducts practical classes, lectures for students on the educational programs "Medicine" and "Pharmacy" in Kazakh, Russian and English. Userbayeva Banu Abdraimovna – Ph.D., senior lecturer. Teaching experience of 25 years. She gives lectures and conducts lectures and practical classes for students in the educational programs "Medicine", "Dentistry", "Pediatrics" in Russian, Kazakh and English. Author of 11 scientific and methodological articles.
Yurikova Oksana - Acting Associate Professor, Ph.D, Biotechnology. Teaching experience of 6 years. Conducts practical classes for students of the Department of Chemistry, Biology and Biochemistry in English. Author of over 20 scientific publications.

Yunussova Nigara Khakimzhanovna - Candidate of Biological Sciences, Ph.D., Senior lecturer at the Department of Chemical Sciences, Biology and Biochemistry. Teaching experience - 1 year. Alipbaeva Gulnaziya Seidalievna - senior lecturer. Teaching experience of 39 years. Asilbekova Gulshakhar Kenesbekovna - senior lecturer, Master of Biology. Teaching experience of 22 years. She gives lectures and practical classes for students of the educational programs "Medicine" in Kazakh and Russian in the discipline "Biochemistry", as well as lectures and practical classes in English to students from abroad of the international Faculty of the specialty "Medicine". The teachers of the department constantly improve their professional level by making presentations at scientific and practical conferences, both regional, national, and international; they systematically undergo training courses in their subjects and pedagogical competencies, and participate in national and intra-academic seminars. The teaching staff of the Department of Chemical Disciplines, Biology and Biochemistry carries out educational, methodological, scientific and educational work according to the approved plan.

The objectives of the Department of "Chemical Disciplines, Biology and Biochemistry" are:
- ensuring a high level of teaching disciplines using modern innovative technologies aimed at fulfilling the main task of the department in the process of training bachelor's, master's and doctoral students;
- development and implementation of textbooks, educational and visual aids in 3 languages, development of control and measuring tools to ensure control of students' knowledge;
- systematic professional development of teachers;
- carrying out educational work in the context of curatorial activities, in the process of giving lectures and conducting practical classes, and during shifts in the dormitory.

Scientific directions of the department "Chemical disciplines, Biology and Biochemistry":
- search and implementation of active teaching methods in teaching chemical disciplines;
- the study of medicinal plants used in folk medicine, growing in the flora of the Turkestan region;
- Approbation of cytogenetic methods of human research (karyotyping of patients);
- introduction of new methods of DNA and RNA isolation for the study of animal and human genes;
- study of regeneration processes;
- anthropometric studies of the population of the Turkestan region in order to establish the type of constitution;
- problems of publication ethics.

Over the past 5 years, the faculty of the department has published: the textbook "Organic Chemistry" (volume I, II, III), a textbook for students of the pharmaceutical specialty "Analytical Chemistry", a textbook for students of "Pharmaceutical production technology" "Organic Chemistry", a textbook for students of medical specialties "Chemistry" on Kazakh and Russian languages, and the textbook "Chemistry" in English, and the monograph "Medicinal plants used in folk medicine."
Currently, the Department of Chemical Disciplines, Biology and Biochemistry employs 29 teaching staff, including 3 professors, 6 acting professors, 4 acting associate professors, 6 Ph.D. students, 6 senior lecturers, 4 teachers, and 5 senior laboratory assistants.
