Department of Pharmacology, Pharmacotherapy and Clinical Pharmacology
The Department of Pharmacology, Pharmacotherapy and Clinical Pharmacology of the South Kazakhstan Medical Academy was founded in 1982 and from the first years of its existence became one of the leading scientific and educational units in the field of clinical and experimental pharmacology.
The founder of the department and its first head was Professor I. Sh. Zabirov (1982-1993), who was the first in Kazakhstan to initiate the introduction of the specialty "Clinical Pharmacy" in hospital settings. His scientific and pedagogical activities contributed to the formation of a new school of clinical pharmacologists and the introduction of pharmacotherapy achievements into practical healthcare in the region.
In the period from 1994 to 2015, Doctor of Medical Sciences, N. Zh. Professor Ormanov - a recognized scientist, author of more than 600 scientific papers, 12 patents for inventions, 6 monographs and 18 textbooks, headed the department. During his leadership the first working program on pharmacology for students of the pharmaceutical faculty was developed, the first domestic textbooks on pharmacology and pharmacotherapy in the Kazakh language were published, including the fundamental works "Pharmacology" (in 2 volumes, 2009) and "Pharmacotherapy" (in 2 volumes, 2009). Supervisor of 11 scientific and technical programs of the Ministry of Education and Science of the Republic of Kazakhstan. Professor N. Zh. Ormanov prepared a galaxy of scientists. Under his leadership, 6 doctoral, 32 candidate and 16 master's dissertations were defended. His contribution to the development of pharmacology has been recognized by high state and regional awards - "Inventor of the USSR", "Excellent Healthcare Worker of the Republic of Kazakhstan".
Between 2015 and 2019, Doctor of Medical Sciences, Professor Z. A. Kerimbayeva, who continued the traditions of scientific and pedagogical development laid down by her predecessors, headed the department. In the period between 2019 and 2021, the department was headed by Candidate of Medical Sciences, Associate Professor K. E. Akhmadiyeva, a specialist in the field of clinical pharmacology and pharmacotherapy. Under her leadership, the department actively strengthened ties with practical healthcare and developed a scientific direction related to the safety and rational use of drugs.
From 2021 to 2025, the department was headed by Candidate of Pharmaceutical Sciences, Associate Professor Zh. S. Toxanbayeva, under whose leadership the department was actively developing modern areas of clinical pharmacy and pharmacology, introducing innovative educational technologies and participating in the training of new generation specialists.
Since 2025, the department has been headed by A.G. Ibragimova, a candidate of pharmaceutical sciences, a teacher with extensive experience in scientific and pedagogical work. Her professional interests include clinical pharmacology, modern approaches to rational pharmacotherapy, pharmacovigilance and drug safety. Under her leadership, the department continues the traditions laid down by previous generations of scientists, actively integrates international educational standards and strengthens scientific research in the field of clinical and experimental pharmacology.
Today, the Department of Pharmacology, Pharmacotherapy and Clinical Pharmacology of SKMA is a scientific and educational center that combines fundamental research, clinical practice and training in accordance with international standards.
