The Department of Therapy and Cardiology
In 1996, the Department of Hospital Therapy was established for the first time at South Kazakhstan State Medical Academy (SKSMA). The department was headed by Candidate of Medical Sciences, Associate Professor M.B. Kuibakov, whose PhD dissertation was devoted to issues of myocardial infarction rehabilitation.
From September 1997 to September 2001, the department was chaired by Doctor of Medical Sciences, Professor S.A. Baidurin, whose doctoral dissertation focused on clinical hematology.
From 2001 to 2009, the department was headed by Professor A.D. Karkabaeva. Her PhD and doctoral research addressed current issues in clinical rheumatology and immunology.
In 2009, the Department of Therapy-2 was divided into two departments: "Internship Therapy No. 1" and "Internship Therapy No. 2."
From 2009 to 2013, the "Internship Therapy No. 1" department was headed by Doctor of Medical Sciences S.M. Sarkulova, whose doctoral work involved a comprehensive assessment of occupational factors influencing the development of cardiovascular diseases in lead production workers.
From 2009 to 2018, the "Internship Therapy No. 2" department was headed by Candidate of Medical Sciences, Professor A.E. Turtaeva. Her PhD dissertation was titled: “Clinical and immunogenetic characteristics of early arthritis and its therapeutic correction.”
Since June 2018, the Department of Therapeutic Disciplines has been chaired by Candidate of Medical Sciences G.K. Asanova. In December 2021, the “Department of Therapeutic Disciplines” was renamed the “Department of Therapy and Cardiology.”
 
The main educational programs offered by the department:
The Department of Therapy and Cardiology, as one of the core clinical and medical departments of the university, contributes significantly to the training of highly qualified specialists in residency educational programs:
"Adult and Pediatric Cardiology." 
“Adult and Pediatric Nephrology”
“Adult and Pediatric Gastroenterology”
“Adult and Pediatric Endocrinology”
“Adult and Pediatric Rheumatology”
“Adult Hematology”
 
Students of the 4th year of the Faculty of “General Medicine” and “Pediatrics,” as well as 4th-year students of the International Faculty, complete their training at the department.
Classes for 4th-year students of the “General Medicine” and “Pediatrics” programs are conducted within the discipline “Fundamentals of Internal Diseases I and II.”
The disciplines are taught in Kazakh, Russian, and English. Educational and methodological materials are updated annually.

Galiya Kutymbetovna Asanova — Candidate of Medical Sciences, Associate Professor
Research interests: “Cardiovascular status in workers of cotton-processing industries,” “Interventional treatment of myocardial infarction,” “Echocardiographic assessment of cardiac function in patients after CABG with concomitant chronic kidney disease.”
Author of more than 85 scientific publications and 3 educational-methodological manuals.
Supervised the defense of 2 master’s theses in the specialty ‘Medicine’.
Holds the highest qualification category in the specialties: Therapy, Adult Cardiology, and Functional Diagnostics.
Faculty Members of the Department
Absseitova Saule Raimbekovna — Member of the Presidium of the Association of Cardiologists of the Republic of Kazakhstan. Recipient of the highest award of the National Medical Association — the “Altyn Dáriger” badge. Author of more than 200 published works, including four textbooks, three methodological manuals, seven methodological recommendations, three patents, and one monograph.
Bekzhigitov Spandiyar Baizhigitovich — Doctor of Medical Sciences, public health specialist, cardiologist of the highest category. Recipient of the “Altyn Dáriger” award. Author of more than 150 scientific works, including patents, clinical practice guidelines, and methodological recommendations.
Turtaeva Aigul Elubayevna — Candidate of Medical Sciences, Associate Professor; author of the article “A method of rehabilitation of oncological patients, a method for producing the ointment ‘Artrogus’ for the treatment of joint syndrome.” Holds the highest qualification category in Adult Rheumatology, Therapy, and Adult Cardiology.
Kushekbaeva Assiya Yergeshovna — Associate Professor, Candidate of Medical Sciences; author of more than 120 scientific publications and methodological materials.
Scientific Priorities of the Department
The department’s scientific priorities are aimed at creating conditions for the provision of high-quality training of specialists in residency and undergraduate programs, capable of delivering qualified medical care for common therapeutic diseases in accordance with the principles of evidence-based medicine.
The department focuses on the formation and consolidation of advanced knowledge, skills, and competencies among residents and students in the specialties:
Adult and Pediatric Cardiology, Adult and Pediatric Nephrology, Adult and Pediatric Gastroenterology, Adult and Pediatric Endocrinology, Adult and Pediatric Rheumatology, Adult Hematology, General Medicine, Pediatrics, Dentistry.
Additionally, the department ensures readiness for industrial-research and teaching practice, as well as the completion of scientific-research and experimental-research projects.

• Improving the knowledge base of undergraduate and residency learners.
• Providing solid competencies, knowledge, skills, and abilities in disciplines relevant to the training track, with the aim of supplying the healthcare sector with qualified specialists who understand the organization of therapeutic care in the country, the functioning of hospital and outpatient facilities, and who are capable of delivering qualified medical assistance to the adult population using modern methods of diagnosis, prevention, treatment, and patient rehabilitation.

The department employs specialists of the highest and first qualification categories who provide consultations for cardiology, rheumatology, gastroenterology, nephrology, hematology, and endocrinology patients.
The department staff, together with clinical healthcare institutions, conduct practical sessions, pathology conferences, and morning clinical conferences.
