Students conducted a scientific research at the pharmaceutical research center

At the South Kazakhstan Medical Academy, under the guidance of Professor K. K. Orynbasarova, head of the Pharmacy Research Center, and research associate G. S. Rakhmanova, seventh-grade students from the T. Ryskulova Lyceum—Slanbek Madina, Erzhigit Aikanym, and their supervisor Mereke Orazova—presented a research project on “Obtaining Natural Vitamin C from the Fruit of the Sea Buckthorn.” The project was presented at the 1st All-Kazakhstan Conference “The Future of Pharmacy: Research and Development.”
With this project, the students took part in the district stage of the republican competition of research and creative works “Zerde” among students in grades 2-7, held in the Kazygurt district, where they took first place and earned the right to represent the district at the regional level. At the end of the regional stage, the project was awarded second place.

The research work included two main areas:
1. Studying the botanical and biological characteristics of lavender.
The students described the plant, examined its morphology, natural properties, distribution, and traditional and modern uses.
2. Extracting natural essential oil and developing an antiseptic based on it. During the practical part of the project, the students demonstrated methods for extracting essential oil from lavender flowers.
3. Based on the oil obtained, they prepared a natural antiseptic, after which its antimicrobial activity was studied. The results showed a pronounced disinfecting effect and the effectiveness of the antiseptic against a number of microorganisms.

The significance of the project lies in demonstrating the potential for using natural plant materials to produce environmentally friendly and effective antiseptic agents. The work contributed to the development of research skills among schoolchildren and fostered an interest in science and the rational use of natural resources.

South Kazakhstan Medical Academy JSC and the Pharmacy Research Center confirm their readiness to support school science initiatives and wish young researchers further success in their scientific and creative activities.
